Beyonderground is a graphic design festival that aims to promote graphic creativity and unite graphic designers, illustrators, street artists and the creative world from around the globe.
The festival was first organised in 2013 in Hasselt, Belgium. That year the Finns and Belgians came along together so well, they decided to start planning a 2nd edition of Beyonderground in Helsinki. The festival was organised in an old abattoir (built in 1933), that nowadays serves as a stylish restaurant and venue called Kellohalli.
The identity was designed with the Beyonderground team and Belgian creatives Ronny & Johny. It is a play with common clichés about countries and nations: the most obvious and not-that-obvious clichés were made into images with various styles and then mixed together – Belgian ones with black and Finnish ones with blue. One room at the festival was reserved for a drawing event, making the international designer guests work together – even more mashup posters were designed during the festival.
