Challenge: From observation to action
For decades, Vaisala’s purpose was “Observations for a better world.” An accurate and trusted observer. Yet the challenges the world faces and the opportunities we have require action. So how do you reposition a nearly 90-year-old, science-driven company from observer to active climate leader — without losing credibility? Not by changing what Vaisala does, but by stating why it matters today.
Approach: Taking every measure for the planet
The renewed strategy positions Vaisala as a company that “takes every measure for the planet.” Scientifically, technically and morally. The new purpose shifts Vaisala from a passive observer into a climate battle-ready company. Measurement is no longer just technical accuracy — it is climate responsibility and advocacy.
Outcome: Making the invisible visible
Every asset and every application can now embody Vaisala’s behaviours: pioneering, curious, and committed. The comprehensive new identity includes a valuable future asset for years to come: a bespoke Vaisala Sans typeface. A font that is used everywhere — the company codes with its own custom font. Toolkits spanning sound, motion, and iconography enable a multisensory rollout across channels and audiences. An encyclopedia of the brand is captured in a mere 240 pages of guidelines. It ranks among the most comprehensive tomes (albeit digital) we’ve created.
It is true and fair to say that Vaisala (and its brand) is visible from Antarctica to Mars. Vaisala’s innovations are used daily by people, industries and nations. The company turns measurements into intelligence, making the invisible conditions around us visible. Why? From safe aeroplane take-offs to Mona Lisa’s smile, to vaccination safety and factory emission control, Vaisala’s role is critical in securing operations, saving resources, cutting pollutants and protecting life.
Taking every measure for the planet.
“In Werklig’s capable and creative hands, we set out on a journey to ‘calibrate’ the Vaisala brand and align with our strategic ambition for growth and climate impact. The journey involved tight collaboration, meaningful discussions, and numerous iterations, allowing us to identify and articulate the elements that truly mattered for our stakeholders and us.
Through this process, we discovered a new shared purpose, gained collective insights into branding, generated a lot of excitement, and addressed the transformation challenges in the hearts and minds of our people. The new brand assets and templates have revitalized our expression. While we still have some miles to cover, we are firmly on the right path.”Nina Eklund, Vice President, Communications and Brand
